Leadership & Vision
Dr. Kabanda is a Public Health Specialist with expertise in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Community Health Systems, and Strategic Health Communications. He has worked with the Ministry of Health, Uganda, as Head of the Department for Health Promotion, where he led the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention agenda.
His responsibilities included policy development, strategy formulation, and setting the health advocacy agenda. He provided overall leadership for implementing Community Health Worker programs in Uganda, such as Village Health Teams (VHTs) and Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs).
Academic & Professional Leadership:
Dr. Kabanda has served as an Academic Consultant and Senior Lecturer at the University of Strathmore
(Kenya) and Uganda Martyrs University. He has authored various papers on Disease Prevention and
mentored over 40 postgraduate students (MSc., MPH, and PhD). He holds a PhD in Public Health, an MPH
in Health Promotion, and an MBA.

In the 2022 Heroes in Health Awards, Dr. Kabanda received special recognition for his exceptional contribution and leadership in advancing Uganda’s Health Promotion and Disease Prevention agenda.
